Duke R. Ligon

Senior Advisor

Duke R. Ligon currently serves as strategic advisor to Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Inc., and executive director of the Love’s Entrepreneurship Center of Oklahoma City University. Prior to joining Love’s, Mr. Ligon retired as senior vice president and general counsel for Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE: DVN) effective January 31, 2007. At Devon, he had 35 years of legal expertise in corporate securities, litigation, governmental affairs and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Devon in 1997, he practiced law for 12 years and last served as a partner at the law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt in New York City. In addition, he was senior vice president and managing director for investment banking at Bankers Trust Co. in New York City for 10 years. Ligon also served for three years in various positions with the U.S. Departments of the Interior and Treasury as well as the Department of Energy.

Ligon has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Westminster College in Missouri, where he received the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1992. He earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.

In addition to his career achievements, Ligon has been actively involved in a number of civic organizations including serving on two board committees of the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art, the board of directors of the Seminole Nation Museum, Friends of the New York Public Library, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Art Museum and the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club. He has also served on the board of New England College and the University of Texas Law School Foundation.

Ligon received the 2006 Eugene Kuntz Award presented by the University of Oklahoma for his outstanding contribution to oil and gas law. Additionally, he served as a captain in U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star medal for his performance of duty.

Ligon is originally from Wewoka and currently resides in Oklahoma City.
